In ''The Last Exorcism,'' an evangelical minister must perform his final exorcism on a young woman who lives on a rural Louisiana farm. Patrick Fabian stars as the Reverend Cotton Marcus. When he gets a letter from farmer Louis Sweetzer asking him to help cast out a demon from his teenage daughter, Nell (played by Ashley Bell), the Reverend Marcus agrees to help. He also asks a documentary film crew to come along to film the entire process. The exorcism turns out to be anything but routine. Reviews for ''The Last Exorcism'' began coming out several days before the movie's release. Overall, reviews were generally favorable. The Last Exorcism garnered an 70 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes' "Tomatometer" on August 26, 2010, and scored a 62 on Metacritic.com. Critics seemed to agree that ''The Last Exorcism'' works as a faux-documentary, with Hollywood Reporter critic Michael Rechtshaffen calling it "the Linda Blair Witch Project." Rechtshaffen goes on to say that the "sturdy performances" in ''The Last Exorcism'' go a long way to make up for those awkward moments, until it all goes to hell with a terse "shocker" ending." Entertainment Weekly's Owen Gleiberman says ''The Last Exorcism'' is "about the dark side of piety - the cultish wrath that can emerge out of the high and the mighty. Many people got just that opportunity, participating in a massive online project called "Star Wars: Uncut." The project invited people to film 15-second re-enactments of scenes from the classic 1977 movie by George Lucas. And they did. In droves. Groups of would-be actors filmed the short scenes (participants could choose up to three different scenes to make) and then the creators of ''Star Wars: Uncut'' edited the best submissions together into a full movie. Participants used everything from puppets to animation to cut outs of the actors for their scenes. The ''Star Wars: Uncut'' interactive project launched in 2009. It is the brainchild of 26-year-old Brooklyn native Casey Pugh, a web developer. Pugh and his team were awarded an Emmy in August of 2010. ''Star Wars: Uncut'' took home a golden statue for "creative achievement in interactive media - fiction." In an interview with the ''Wall Street Journal,'' Pugh called attending the creative arts Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony "a surreal experience," adding that in his acceptance speech he "said something...like 'I guess the force was with us.'" Pugh told the ''Wall Street Journal'' that the win is "a great sign for Internet video." LucasFilm, owner of all rights to the ''Star Wars'' franchise, still has to give final approval for the project. Pugh says currently, the project is going through a legal process to become an "actual fan film." For now, the unedited version of ''Star Wars: Uncut'' is available for viewing online. All of the clips are "strung together," but the film does not include background music from the official ''Star Wars'' soundtrack. TMZ quotes unnamed sources as saying that the alleged tape featuring Shannon and Montag was discovered by Montag's husband, Spencer Pratt. According to TMZ's source, Pratt found the tape as he was moving out of the Malibu home where he and Montag lived. The 22-year-old former model from Guadalajara was crowned during the pageant in Las Vegas on August 23, 2010. She is only the second Miss Mexico to win the Miss Universe title. Navarrete won several prizes that come with the Miss Universe crown, including an "undisclosed salary," a luxury apartment in New York and a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy. The Associated Press says Navarrette did not expect to win Miss Universe. Navarrete is quoted as saying "I did feel surprised, I was like in a state of shock." During the interview portion of the pageant, Olympic figure skater Evan Lysacek asked Navarrette how she felt about "unsupervised Internet use." Through a translator, Navarrette emphasized family values, saying "I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time." Navarrette responded that parents should supervise children on the Internet, saying "We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family." Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipps, was first runner-up in the pageant. Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell, was second runner-up. Lebanese-born Miss USA, Rima Fakih, was not among the top 15 finalists. Miss Venezuela, Marelisa Gibson, also didn't finish in the top 15. Contestants from Venezuela have taken two of the last three Miss Universe pageant titles. In 2008, Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza won the Miss Universe crown and in 2009, the title went to Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez. After Navarrete's win, Mexican President Felipe Calderon issued a statement saying that Navarrete's "triumph is a source of pride and satisfaction for all Mexicans, who see in her the fruits of perseverance." When asked what she plans to promote as the new Miss Universe, Navarrete told the AP: "I want the whole world to know about my country and my people." ''Avatar: Special Edition,'' which features nine minutes of never-before-seen footage, will be shown in all theaters in 3D. The original ''Avatar'' is considered the highest grossing movie in film history - it has made $2.7 billion worldwide since its December 2009 release. In an interview with the Associated Press, Cameron said he wants to "keep people interested and enthused about the 'Avatar' universe, because it's going to be a long time before we get another 'Avatar' movie done." Cameron, who has indicated that he does have plans for ''Avatar'' sequels, selected and edited the new footage for the ''Avatar'' re-release. What can viewers expect from the new footage in ''Avatar: Special Edition''? The new clips are said to be included throughout the movie. Among the scenes: detailed footage of the death of Na'vi clansman Tsu'tey. Cameron says that Tsu'tey's death scene is "actually the best CG we did in the whole movie." Cameron told MTV that fans will also be introduced to a new animal called the "Sturmbeest." He says new footage includes "a big scene we call the Sturmbeest hunt." The nine minutes of additional footage added to ''Avatar: Special Edition'' in U.S. theaters will also be included on a special-edition ''Avatar'' DVD. The DVD will be released in November of 2010. Director James Cameron has also indicated that an additional seven minutes of footage not included in the movie theater re-release will be included on the DVD. http://www.mahalo.com/hurricane-danielle-2010 Hurricane Danielle has formed in the far Atlantic, becoming the second hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. On the morning of August 23, 2010, Tropical Storm Danielle was centered about 2700 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. The storm was packing sustained 65 mile per hour winds and later in the day turned into a hurricane with top sustained winds at 75 miles per hour, which forecasters expect to strengthen over the next few days. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Danielle was moving west-northwest at about 16 miles per hour on the morning of August 23. Where will the Hurricane wind up? It's too early to tell. Hurricane Center meteorologists were predicting that Danielle could increase in forward speed "over the next day or so" and "should make a turn toward the northwest by Wednesday," August 25, 2010. Hurricane Danielle is the second of this year's Atlantic hurricane season, which officially began on June 1, 2010. Experts have predicted that this year's season will be an active one, with up to 20 named Atlantic storms. Between eight and 12 could become hurricanes. To date, only Tropical Storm Alex, the first named storm of the season, went on to become a hurricane. Are the tropics beginning to heat up? Some experts say "yes." Meteorologist Rick Knabb of the Weather Channel says "There are signs that the Atlantic is acting like it should in August and September." Knabb says "We're seeing more activity than we did earlier in the season." AccuWeather hurricane expert Joe Bastardi says Hurricane Danielle could mark the opening of the floodgates. Bastardi is calling for "an upcoming frenzy of storms, days with two or three storms on the chart."
